My name is Diego and my project is on Professor Owen J. Goldrick. My school was named after O.J. Goldrick, it was built in 1951 on 1050 South Zuni Street. I really enjoyed going to Goldrick Elementary because I had many friends. O.J. Goldrick was an immigrant from Ireland who came to Colorado because he knew that children needed to have education, and he wanted to teach them. He came to Colorado in October of 1859 at the beginning of the Colorado Gold Rush. O.J. Goldrick started the first school in Denver. Professor O.J. Goldrick made the first school in an old leaky house. He made it a private school and it was called Union School. Parents would have to pay $3 dollars a month. They schools began to grow and he had to hire more teachers and eventually open another school. After he taught school, Goldrick became a journalist and wrote for local newspapers. I feel a connection to O.J. Goldrick because my elementary school was named for him. It is My Community, My Colorado.
