My grandparents live in Durango, Mexico. They live near a river and it always floods. In Colorado there was a bridge knocked down during the Cherry Creek flood of 1965. In Durango, Mexico there was also a bridge knocked down by flooding.
Here is some history about the Cherry Creek Flood in 1965. The rain began to fall on the eastern foothills of Colorado on June 13. The flood zone represented 67% of the industrial area in the city. All the repairs that had to be made cost a total of $914,000.
During the floods in Durango, Mexico the rain caused overland flooding. The Cherry Creek Flood also caused overland flooding. There were many railroad tracks that were destroyed due to the flooding.
When I learn about the Cherry Creek Flood, it reminds me of the experience my grandparents had in Durango, Mexico. Many people are hurt because of floods. It is My Community, My Colorado.
