Hi! My name is Maria and I was born at St. Anthony’s Hospital in 1999.
The Gold Rush and the development of the railroad brought a lot of people to Denver. Since so many people were coming to Denver, a hospital was needed.
St. Anthony’s history is long because it is 118 years old. The original hospital was on York Street in Denver. The Union Pacific Railroad asked Most Rev. Bishop Joseph P. Machebeuf to help provide nurses and other staff to care for the patients. Bishop Machebuef then asked Sisters of Saint Francis Lafayette Indiana to help with the hospital.
This hospital is connected to my community because I was born there. I feel proud to be born there. My name is Maria and St. Anthony’s is my birth place. It is My Community, My Colorado.
